Solar electricity
April 9, 2008 12:03 pm UpdatesThose large blocks of obsidian shade, glaring out in defiance against the intense heat and light, don’t just magically turn all that energy into electricity. There’s a highly sophisticated process going on and this article is here to provide the answers to that question.
The secret lies in the photovoltaic cells. They are the main units that convert the sunlight into electricity. When the photons in sunlight are absorbed by the semiconducting materials, electrons are knocked loose from the atoms and the flow of charge produces electricity. The solar panels then convert solar energy into Direct Current electricity which enters an inverter and turns it into AC (Alternate current) electricity to be readily used by home appliances.
